I do live recordings at a local club of various types of music, mostly rock, but some blues/bluegrass. My main issue is getting a strong enough bass signal onto the recording. I've been just micing the bass amp so I get the sound the player is looking for/playing. Should I also DI the bass in order to get a better signal and use it in combination with the live sound? I do compress slightly for the recording in an attempt to get a stronger signal, but I don't want to go overboard with it and lose the dynamics.
I'm only doing this as a hobby, but the lack of bottom in the recordings is bothering me a lot when I try to mix it and any suggestions would be appreciated.
I'm using a Roland 2480 for my recordings.

DI the bass

I'm in favour of DI'ing both bass and keyboards for live recording. It gives you a clear track with no spill that you can eq and compress to sit within the rest of the mix.

I appreciate the input, after

I appreciate the input, after watching the online videos it seemed to hint that's what I needed to do. I will have to invest in a couple DI boxes now!
